Lithuania
|
The formation of Lithuania dates back to 1009. The country has endured several invasions and conquests by neighboring countries whose influences are still very visible, but after being the first country of the Soviet Republic to leave the USSR in 1990, this small but proud country is reclaiming its own unique culture and traditions. Lithuania is a nature lover’s paradise full of mystical forests, lakes, and home to several national parks, including Curonian Spit National Park, a long strip of sand that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic sea boasting some of the highest dunes in Europe and home to a wide range of plant and animal species. The more urban traveller will enjoy spending time in the capital city Vilnius, home to one of the largest surviving medieval old towns in Europe. With chorale music being an integral part of Lithuanian culture, it is no wonder that Vilnius is the only city with three choirs laureates. Experience the hospitality of this ancient country! You will not regret it.
